Add-on addiction

Ok, so I went about 36 hours without blogging and I just cannot take it anymore. GEEZ! Glad I said it. Actually, I've been on blogger all day (confession), but did not post anything until now.

As you can see on my sidebar, I kind of went nuts today. I was reading this from the blogger help desk about stuff that can be added to the page. I said, "Hmmmm, this looks interesting." So, I checked out some of the links, and did some google searches on my own. And, I explored other blogs to see what they had on them. What I kept reading was that if you can figure out how to change your sidebar links, you'll have no problem with add-ons to your blog. So, I tried my first one, and it worked!

Before I knew it, six hours went by and I just kept adding, what I thought was cool stuff, to my blog. It was really hard, but I cut myself off from searching anymore. I trimmed down the amount of stuff over there (that was tough). And, ended up with what you see now as the "new and improved" sidebar.

Here are just two things I want to highlight:
Frappr Map: You can put a kind of thumb tack anywhere on this map. Can also post a comment and other stuff I haven't figured out yet. You'll see that I put myself in Key West. I have visited there a few times and would like to live there eventually (except during hurricane season).

Babel Fish translator: It's strange seeing this page translated in different languages. I tried and it works for most of the languages listed.

There is so much more stuff over there that I don't even know what they do yet. But, they look cool, don't you think? All I have to say for myself is this, "I'm Dr. A, and I'm an Add-On Addict." Please help me!

Frappr is coooool. Do I have to put myself in Philly or can I put myself in Sarasota, Florida? I was just visiting there at the beginning of June and have been going there since childhood. I hope to move there at some point myself....even if it's during hurricane season! Call me a nut! :O)

Take care,
Carrie :)

P.S. I spent about 5 hours today on blogger myself....bouncing between blogs and either leaving comments or refreshing pages waiting for new comments/posts. I think we need help, but at least I didn't sleep the entire day away this time! ;)

Gee, I didn't think of putting myself on frapper where I wanted to be ...which would be Yosemite National Park ... I put myself in Frapper where I am ...

Darn.

I think you are in worse shape than most.

I was wondering...

Could I become a member of the "blog-a-holics" too?

Enjoy your blog.

I'm adding you to my blogroll.

Ummm...I think I should join your blog-a-holics support group...I am so bad that I seriously considered taking my laptop to my sons swim meet today thinking I could possibly pick up someone's wireless signal and I could blog and read blogs while I sat there...YES, I am that far gone! Also, I have internet on my cell phone, but I'm just not quite tech saavy to figure it out lightening fast like everyone else, who, incidentially don't seem to be a blog-a-holics anyway. Love your blog!

Scan Man, I think I misplaced the sign-up sheet for the meetings while I was in the midst of my sidebar construction project. It's around here somewhere...

I found you from the Tundra PA and have enjoyed your blogs; I bookmarked you for my daily reading. Don't have one myself; I just lurk and occasionally write comments (so far...). But, does having to read my bookmarked blogs every day or I get really cranky qualify me for Bloggers Anonymous or do I need to go join Lurkers Anonymous?

What you need is detox. I recommend turning off the computer and going outside for a nice brisk walk every time you feel the urge to blog. I don't do this, but I don't have a problem with blogging. Really. I only log in two or three times an hour. That's not bad, is it?

Dr. A said...

Amelia, I apologize for ignoring my international audience. There's now a world map on my Frappr site. Scan man already placed himself in India. I look forward to seeing where you'll place yourself. A

Dawn, Lurkers are welcome, but it's not as much fun as bloggin! Let us know when you start you blog -- like today! HA!

Kt, I put a world map on the Frappr, now. Check it out!
--
FD, I don't know what would be worse, computer detox or Diet Coke detox. Any thoughts on that?

Blogging can be so addicting. I can't believe you were able to stay away from it so long!

When Dear Son was in the hospital, I had to go to the Play Room at the hospital in order to access the pcs and they were only available during certain hours. I was like a drug addict, trying to figure out when I could get to a pc. Once a nurse offered to let me use her pc (bad move since I couldn't get the history deleted) and I was really excited.

OK, now I have company from out of state and I can't stay away from the pc. Every time we walk in the house I have to check to find what I have missed.

I'm probably going to be up all night now adding all this stuff to my sidebar. It's so bad now I have started transferring my posts to another site in preparation for when I mess up and wipe out my entire template.

Your sidebar looks great Dr. A.

Dr. A said...

Cathy, Thanks for the compliment. Just a quick tip - Make sure you try the preview button before actually making final changes to the template. B/c if something messes up, you can still change it before it's actually published. (hope that makes sense)

Man, you are one quick study! Your sidebar is totally cool. You're way ahead of me, I haven't begun to get those colorful bits figured out. But then my blog was nearly a month old before I managed to get a blogroll on it and delete the "edit-me"s that came with the template. *rolls eyes* I added myself to your Frappr map, but it seems to think Bethel is next to Nome! Oh well, at least it is the right part of the state. So how did you manage to endure 36 hours of privation? Were DTs setting in? After 4 hours my concentration is shot and my hands start to tremble! I'm probably in the hopeless category...

Am writing this from up in Bangor! Visiting my son and daughter in law. It took over 3 hours to get up here ... and I had no internet connection for the whole trip!

*sweat sweat*

By the way, Dr. Anon ... I'm so sorry ... I should have warned you that the sidebar stuff was catchy ... *blink* ... no cure, either. Once you've got it, you're doomed to keep decking out your sidebar with more and more and more ... and ...

*pant pant*

How come you don't have Truth Laid Bear yet!?! *poke!*

OH yes. I started my blog late last August, and by the end of Sept, I was VERY hooked on trying various add-ons and things! It's catching, isn't it? Can't you prescribe something for that? Hee hee.

One of my faves is the phases of the moon add-on, in my sidebar. My 7 year old daughter loves it too, and checking daily to see what percent of the moon is waxing or waning, and the moon itself in whatever stage it's in.

I even bought a book on HTML, but I haven't read beyond the 3rd chapter yet. I'm meaning to, though . . . . I self-learned w/out the book as much as I could in that first month and added away!

But one thing that I'm dreading/looking forward to, is, I've recently found a site that has some THREE column Blogger templates . . . I mean WHY so much unused space on the sides of my blog! So when I gear up for THAT transformation, I can add yet even more sidebar blingage. Hee!
