PixelRN: First Video Post

Congrats on PixelRN on creating her first video post. Here, she updates us on what's been happening and how she's been feeling since her blog was "delisted" by Google. What? Really? Yes, that's right. For more information, check out Part One and Part Two and she goes into more detail there.

So, another person from the New Media Medicine community journeying into the area of video blogging. YAY! Are you next? I know that you are. It's easy. And, it's fun. I know most of you out there have a web cam on your laptop now. So, check it out! You'll be glad you did!

Show 50 Wrap-up

Thanks so much to Dr. Jeffrey Parks from the Buckeye Surgeon blog. Missed the show? Well, you can always catch the archive of The Doctor Anonymous Show 50 (don't forget to rate the show). In addition to surgical topics, we talked about how he started out as an anonymous blogger. And, in the past few months, he decided to use his real name and picture up on his blog. (See video post above)

Thanks also go out to those who called into the show including Bongi (a surgeon from South Africa where it was 3:30am when he called in), Vijay (a radiologist from India where it was about 8am local time when he called in), Ramona, Enrico, and Mother Jones who called in at the end of the show. I admit that I had a little difficult time hearing Bongi live. So, I'll have to listen to the archived show again.

At the end of the show, I talked about a possible Doctor Anonymous Halloween Show at the end of October. I'm thinking that would be fun, but not sure exactly how the show would be structured. Maybe we can talk about that as the date gets closer. Any suggestions? Leave them in the comment section.

Finally, I'm cancelling the blogtalkradio show next week. I'm scheduled to play soccer doc and when I would be back home at Dr. A world headquarters is unpredictable. I'm considering doing something like broadcasting from my ustream channel when I get home - maybe put out there on Twitter when I would be broadcasting. Still unsure yet. However, if you're not subscribed yet to my twitter account - Do it! It's a great time. Have a great weekend, everybody!

The Buckeye Surgeon interview

This week, The Doctor Anonymous Show is honored to welcome Dr. Jeffrey Parks to the show. His blog is called Buckeye Surgeon and he works in the Cleveland, Ohio area. This probably doesn't mean much to some people out there, but, to me, I think this is great because this is a guy who is close to me. And, someone I may actually refer patients to at some point in the future.

Not only does this guy have great clinical posts (with added images from CT scans and other pics), he has excellent non-clinical posts as well whether it comes to Cleveland sports or whatever. I really enjoyed the first paragraph that he ever wrote on a blog - in a post simply entitled, "Begin"
An initial salvo into the world of unfettered spilling of soul into the public domain. The concept is revolutionary, as far as Im concerned. Whatever happened to locked leather journals, stashed under the bedframe? Away with private thoughts. This is me! I exist! Although reeking of narcissism and existential angst, you have to admit, it's compelling as hell. If you're any good, and people respond regularly with insightful feedback, an entire community is born, a community unavailable to us in non-cyber (so-called real) life, as we mindlessly pass through our waking days like automatons, driving the same routes to work, having the same superficial conversations with colleagues you know nothing about but have known for years, distracted by talk radio, ipods, sports scores, our minds cluttered with the nothingness. Maybe the modern mind isn't made for solitary contemplation with pen and paper. We make a deal. If we are going to, god forbid, think creatively, constructively, or insightfully, then it has to be done so everyone else can see. The age of exhibitionism. Watch me. Read me.
So, join us for show number 50(!) on Thursday, September 25th, 2008 at 9pm Eastern Time on BlogTalkRadio. In addition to the interview, you can also participate in the live interactive chat room, you can call into the show to ask a question, and you can even see my shining face on the live web cam. Exciting, I know. See you for the show!

BlogWorld 2009 starts NOW

As this blog reported yesterday, Blog World Expo 2009 will have an entire medblogger program track devoted to it (YAY!). There were more details from the initial planning meeting posted on Emergiblog just last night. Apparently, there will be eight sessions on the program.

In their initial brainstorming session, they came up with eleven potential topics including the following: Health Care Blogger Code of Ethics, HIPPA, Pharmaceutical companies, Writer's Block, "Bloggin for a livin," Medical corporate america in blogging, Health Policy Issues, Networking inside and out of the medblogosphere, something called "Skeptics Circle," and health advocacy.

Of course, I paraphrased all the topics above (rather badly, I think). To get the more detailed version, I suggest you head on over to the Emergiblog, take a read of the list, and leave comments. I'm going to turn off comments over here in an effort to concentrate all the comments in one place. Put on your thinking caps, boys and girls! Even though we have a year to do this, let's channel this excitement into planning mode for next year. What do you think? This is going to be fun!

New Media Medicine at BlogWorld

It was really great seeing the twitters and blog posts from my pals out there at Blog World Expo this past weekend. Big shout out to Emergiblog for the blog update and to Dr. Val for the twitter updates. That's a great pic above. According to Kim, here are the people above, "From left to right: Rob Halper, our friend from Johnson & Johnson, Beth (PixelRN), Me (when I’m not doubling as my Lego alter-ego), and Dr. Val. In the back, the one and only Shane and Dr. Val’s friend John (Mr. Dr. Val was taking the picture!)."

Did you know that Dr. Val was interviewed by BlogTalkRadio while at the expo? And, that she is going to have her own BlogTalkRadio show soon? Yeesh, I fear that I will be blown away by the Dr. Val tsunami when she starts on BTR. Oh well. Thanks, though, for mentioning my show during your BTR interview. Want to listen? Click here and check it out.

Mark your calenders now - all of you who are friends of New Media Medicine. The dates for next year are October 15-17, 2009 for Blog World Expo. And, if you didn't already know, there will be an entire medblogger track - the first of its kind at a national new media convention. I'm very excited about that. I'll be curious about how the schedule is put together and the speakers that the organizers obtain for the convention.

I hope to read more experiences from 2008 Blog World from those who attended - especially the luncheon sponsored by Johnson & Johnson - the topic of which was supposed to be about new media medicine and medblogging. Let us know how that went. I'm curious about the reception to this topic by those who attended - particularly corporate America.

The Differential Podcast: Episode 1

I just got the e-mail today that the first episode of The Differential podcast is now available for your review and download. As you know, this is a podcast about the TV show "House, MD." We talked to two of the co-hosts on The Doctor Anonymous Show number 48 a couple of weeks ago.

I did a little 3 minute commentary about the relevant medical plotlines of this week's episode called "Dying Changes Everything." This analysis is not intended to be all inclusive like the analysis seen on other sites like polite dissent, but only a quick opinion about what I think is interesting. So, I hope, if anything else, listeners find it entertaining.

Anyway, you can get to the Episode One by clicking here. I turned the comments off here, because I hope if you check out the episode, that you leave comments over there on The Differential podcast site. Enjoy!

Show 49 Wrap-up

Thanks to everyone who joined The Doctor Anonymous Show 49 tonight! Thanks to Kim from Emergiblog who is going out to Blog World Expo in Las Vegas this weekend. We talked about a luncheon that's going to take place out there centered on new media medicine and medical blogging. (See video post above)

There has also been talk that there will be a specific new media medicine and medblogger programming track at Blog World Expo 2009. So, we talked about potential topics including The Health Care Blogger Code of Ethics. Also, in kind of a fun way, we were "volunteering" people to do sessions next year. Thanks so much to the people who called into the show (and makes my job a lot easier so I don't have to talk to myself): Emily, Mother Jones, Enrico.

Also, thanks to everyone who listened live! I had to start the show 45 minutes late tonight because I was stuck at the hospital. But, as soon as I sent the twitter out that the show was starting - BOOM - about 20 people magically appeared in my chat room. The power of Twitter!

After the radio show, I went live on my UStream site. And, there were about 20 people in there chatting it up, and looking at my face as I talked like a pirate - hehe. We listened to music, did out little post morteum of the show, and just hang out. We even had people listening and watching from Australia, India, and South Africa tonight. How cool is that? Thanks so much to everyone for continuing to support the show. Have a great weekend!

House Season 5

As I talked about last week on The Doctor Anonymous Show, I'm joining a podcast talking about House, MD. The season 5 premiere is on Tuesday night and I'm really looking forward to it. In the video clip above, there is a preview of the premiere show. Of course, there doesn't seem to be a lot of clues of what's going to happen.

The Differential Podcast is the fan podcast talking about House, MD. If you haven't checked it out yet, I encourage you to check out their website. They have bios on all the co-hosts. And, I will be giving a "medical consult" every week on the relevant medical plotlines in the weekly show. So, if you haven't already, remember to check out the TV show, and then check out the podcast when it's released (if for anything else to listen to me - hehe).

MedPiano now video posting!

For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you already know that I'm very excited that another member of the new media medicine family is now trying out video posting. Above, you see our friend MedPiano and not only is be back blogging after a little break, he is trying out video posting. Great job with this! I encourage everyone (yes you!) to at least try out a video posting site. Of course, you know my preference is viddler, but try out anyone that you would like. It'll be fun!

Night Without Power

Finally finished with my weekend on call. It's not that it was too, too busy. Just happy to get another weekend on call out of the way. As you can see in the video above, Sunday night was kind of an adventure, because the power went out last night. Now, don't get me wrong, around here, we did not even get the damage that occurred down south from hurricane ike. However, for around here, this is the highest sustained wind gusts that we have had in a while.

Before the power went out at home last night, I was reading some twitters which said that thousands of people on Ohio were without power. And, still this morning, throughout the Buckeye state, many people are still without power, and thoughts that things may not be up and running for as long as seven days - yeesh.

Anyway, when the power was flickering on and off last night - and then subsequently stayed off, what was the first thing that I thought of. That's right - Why not make a video to share with all of my new media friends. And, yes, Kb was right in that this video has the feel of Blair Witch.

On the technology front, I was still checking my twitters via my iPhone even with all electricity and wired internet out - because that's the guy I am - constantly staying connected with all of you - because I care. Emergiblog was even encouraging me to get a battery powered modem (what's up with that? hehe) Anyway, enjoy the video. And, for those of you in Ohio, how's it going? Do you still have power outages and internet interruption? Are you reading this from your iPhone? Let me know!

Show 48 Wrap-up

Thanks so much to my guests Travis and Rae on The Doctor Anonymous Show 48. They are co-hosts on The Differential podcast which is a fan podcast about the TV show House, MD. We talked about possible spoilers for the Season 5 Premiere which will be Tuesday, September 16th, 2008 at 8pm eastern time on the Fox television network.

We also talked about the website which has discussion forums, sign-up for a newsletter, and a poll asking who is your favorite character on the show. They also have a my space page. Rae also said that this is the only podcast out there whose main purpose is a House, MD fan podcast (that's exciting). Thanks again for being on the show, and I'm excited to be a part of this project.

I closed out the show by sharing thoughts concerning September 11, 2001. I told myself that if I ever was able to have a blog and possibly a show - that I would talk about things important to me - like that day. I talked about The National Anthem in a post back on September 6th, 2006. So, for tonight's show, I shared some thoughts about what is a significant day for me. I hope everyone has a great weekend (I'm on call, ugh). Talk to you soon!

Update: Here is a video post from Crzegrl about September 11th. I think it speaks for itself. Well done, Emily.

Join us tonight for The Doctor Anonymous Show number 48. Our scheduled guest will be Travis from The Differential podcast which is a fan podcast for the TV show "House, MD." If you haven't heard already, I have been asked to be a medical consultant to the fan podcast (which I am very excited about). Later on tonight's show, I may share thoughts about 9/11/2001.

If you do listen live, you can even take part in the chat room. It is truly "The show within the show." You can even call in and say hello. A great opportunity to interact with medbloggers you've only read about. And, you will be able to see me on the live webcam during the show! See you tonight!

Busy Week

Ever feel like everything is closing in around you? Ever feel like you're barely treading water? Well, that explains my life over the past week or so. I apologize in advance for any whininess that may come out in this post. It's just that I have not been very good with the time management this week.

Why is that? Well, my schedule has just been overbooked. Almost each morning this week, I have a 7am meeting at the hospital for one reason or another. These morning meetings always go over time, and then, I'm not able to round on my patients at the hospital. So, what I do is already run late a little bit for the morning patients, and then try to get back to the hospital during my "lunch break" to try to get to see some people.

And, then, get back to the office by 1pm to try to start my afternoon on time. If I didn't finish my rounds, then I have to try to budget some time after the office to head back to the hospital to finish up. The tricky thing this week is that I've had an evening meeting on one night and a soccer game on the other night. Each night this week, I've been back at the office until about midnight just to try to catch up.

Is that whiney yet? Well, how about this. I really haven't been able to keep up with twitter following (let alone twitter posting). I haven't had a chance to record, edit, and post any kind of video promo for this weeks show. And, oh yeah, that sleep thing has been in deprivation this week as well. I really should go to sleep now and try to get some rest.

Finally, I'm debating on whether to talk about anything related to 9/11/2001 on this week's show. Political discourse is not the point. I just was thinking about sharing where I was, what was I doing, and other random thoughts. It may drive people away from the show. But, at some point, I was looking for an opportunity to share this stuff, and maybe this week's show is the time and place to do that. We'll see...

Thanks Facebook

So, I tried to log into my Facebook account this morning. And, when I tried to do that, I learned that my "Docteur Incognito" account was disabled and deleted. When I tried to find out more information, I obtained the following message.
Why was my account disabled?

Your account was disabled because you violated Facebook’s Terms of Use, to which you agreed when you first registered for an account on the site. Accounts can either be disabled for repeat offenses or for one, particularly egregious violation.

Facebook does not allow users to register with fake names, to impersonate any person or entity, or to falsely state or otherwise misrepresent themselves or their affiliations.

We do not allow users to send unsolicited or harassing messages to people they don’t know, and we remove posts that advertise a product, service, website, or opportunity.

Our Code of Conduct outlines the types of content we do not allow on the site. This includes any obscene, pornographic, or sexually explicit photos, as well as any photos that depict graphic violence. We also remove content, photo or written, that threatens, intimidates, harasses, or brings unwanted attention or embarrassment to an individual or group of people.
So, naturally, I'm bummed out about that. But, honestly, I really wasn't using Facebook that much anyway. People constantly asking me to put applications on my profile and the rest of the facebook blah, blah, blah. See ya facebook.

New Video Posts: SixUntilMe & Crzegrl

As all of you know, I enjoy seeing more and more medbloggers utilize video. We Talked about SixUntilMe last week. Well, now she has a new video post entitled "Diabetes and Old School Support." As usual, a lot of great comments over there. I encourage you to check it out. (Also check out the video post below)

Then, I was pleasantly surprised to find that our most recent guest on The Doctor Anonymous Show, Crzegrl, also has ventured into the area of video posting. She alluded to it on her appearance on Show 47 this past week. Great job with this! I'm looking forward to seeing more vidposts in the future! (Check out the video post below)

Show 47 Wrap-up

Thanks so much to Emily McGee from Crzegrl, Flight Nurse for being on the Show Number 47 (Don't forget to rate the show and to make it a "favorite").

If you missed this show live, you definitely missed a good one (no kidding!). Emily is a very passionate person and driven person - and that's why she has been successful at just about anything that she does. We talked about her blog and about blogging in general -especially in the areas of nursing blogging and military blogging. (See the video post above)

We also talked about some of her hobbies including her motorcycle and skydiving. These topics really lit up the chat room. She enlisted in the army and I cannot thank her and her colleagues in the armed forces enough for their service to this country. It's because of brave people like these that a shmuck like me can have a radio show. Have you thanked a soldier today?

Thanks also to Enrico and to Marq for calling into the show, asking questions, and sharing comments. I really appreciate it. Following the blogtalkradio show, I went live on my ustream site for about half an hour. We had a first time listener on the show and asked some questions which I answer on the recorded video stream.

Finally, "the announcement" that I referred to on the promo video post for this show - I was approached to do a little medical commentary on a new fan podcast for the show "House, MD" So, that's definitely something different for me. Travis, who is one of the co-hosts for the podcast, is scheduled to be on the show next week to discuss further. Have a great weekend everybody!

If you do listen live, you can even take part in the chat room. It is truly "The show within the show." You can even call in and say hello. A great opportunity to interact with medbloggers you've only read about. And, you will be able to see me on the live webcam during the show! See you tonight!

Blogger Reading List

So, as I was going to write another post this evening, I found this new and interesting function here on Blogger. I guess it's a different way to designate yourself as a supporter of your favorite blogs. Here is some info from the Blogger help desk:
Blogger Reading List, you can read all of the latest posts from your favorite blogs right on your Blogger Dashboard! Your Blogger Reading List, conveniently located under your list of blogs on your dashboard, enables you to subscribe to any blog with a feed. It will update instantly each time a new post is published on any blog in your Reading List. Additionally, you can check out our latest Blogger Buzz posts from the "Blogger Buzz" tab, and the latest Blogs of Note from the "Blogs of Note" tab.
It looks kind of interesting to me. I'll be definitely be reading more about this. So, if you're on Blogger, please, please, please put me on your reading list and I'll have your cool logo or avatar in my sidebar (Isn't that special?). And, in turn, I'll try to do the same for your blog. Happy reading!

The Crzegrl Interview

The Doctor Anonymous Show is proud to welcome Crzegrl, Flight Nurse to Show 47 on Thursday, September 4th, 2008 at 9pm Eastern Time. She is otherwise known as Emily McGee (pictured above), and I won't even try to recite all that she has done profesionally other than to say that presently she is a flight nurse (cool), is a Captain in the US Army Reserves (really cool), and is a new media medicine maven (extra cool!).

In addition to her blog, in encourage you to check out a podcast is called "Frontlines of Freedom." The show from June 29, 2008 is where our guest was highlighted (start listening at 4:20 into the show). The host starts with this quote, "Captain Emily McGee has done in more to her life to date than most have done in three lifetimes." Quite a compliment. The second show she was on was just on August 24, 2008 where she was part of an panel (start listening at 4:25 into the show).

Also, for those of you who remember, she was part of the panel on the Valentine's Day show where the blogtalkradio site really messed up the audio. (I'm still not bitter, am I?) Anyway, thanks crzegrl for coming back. I could be wrong, but I think that she's excited about being on the show. Check out today's post:
OHhhhhh!!! I forgot to tell you all that I am going to be the guest on the Doctor Anonymous Show this Thursday at 2100! (that is 9 p.m. to all you civilian types.) If you haven’t logged in live, I do suggest you show up!
Not only is Dr. A getting better and better (do I hear syndication??) but the chat room is the place to be on Thursday nights. I would especially love to “see” some of you EMS and military bloggers/lurkers. You guys will bring some more spice to an already H-O-T bunch of crazies!
So, cancel whatever you're doing Thursday night, and join us for the show! And, I have to tell you right now. I'm very intimidated by this upcoming interview - mainly because she can squash me like a bug - So I have to watch out! What? Something on TV that night? We'll that's what TiVo, digital video recorders, and VCRs are for (who uses VCRs anymore anyway? hehe). Hope to see you there!
