National Doctor's Day

In case you didn't know, National Doctor's Day is March 30th. Information from Wikipedia shows the following about the day:
The first Doctors Day observance was March 30, 1933 in Winder, Georgia. Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, decided to set aside a day to honor physicians. This first observance included the mailing greeting cards and placing flowers on graves of deceased doctors. The red carnation is commonly used as the symbolic flower for National Doctors Day.

On March 30, 1958, a Resolution Commemorating Doctors Day was adopted by the United States House of Representatives. In 1990, legislation was introduced in the House and Senate to establish a national Doctors Day. Following overwhelming approval by the United States Senate and the House of Representatives, on October 30, 1990, President George Bush signed S.J. RES. #366 (which became Public Law 101-473) designating March 30th as "National Doctors Day."
In the video above, I describe something that my hospital is doing this year. It's kind of funny, but there is a ballot that is floating through the hospital asking people to vote in particular categories like the following: Easiest to Call at 2am, Most Appreciative, Best Handwriting, Best Jokes, etc.

Just curious, but is your hospital doing anything to commemorate this day? Let me know by sharing your comments below. Don't forget to your favorite (and maybe not so fave) physician on their day. Happy Doctor's Day!

Update: I apologize for not having the video above not working. When I first posted this, Facebook was allowing people to see the video, and now not so much. I did set the privacy settings to "everyone." But, that didn't work. Maybe they mean "everyone" logged into Facebook. Anyway, I'm going to upload the video to another site and repost here when available.

Wow, I didn't know there was a "Doctor's Day." Nice to know that doctors are being appreciated with their own holiday too. I like the ballot idea your hospital is holding, very clever!

Hi! I work at Doctors' Hospital of Michigan ... so we are definately recognizing our doctors. We're having a catered breakfast and then there's a fundraiser dinner recognizing doctors who have 30 years of service here ...
The ballot idea is more fun though! We'll have to do that next year!

Happy Doctors' Day to you, Dr. A! :) Hope you had a wonderful day! I've talked to several doctors today who didn't even know today is Nat'l Doctors' Day, because no one did anything special to recognize them. That's too bad! I hope your co-workers are more festive than that!

I think it is wonderful that there is such a day. Coming from a family of doctors, I definitely think doctors should be recognized for their hard work and valiant efforts.
It is a holiday that definitely needs to get more publicity.

It's nice your hospital did something, mine did nothing for our medical staff. They didn't even recognize that we exist on Doctors Day. Par for the course in these days of demonizing physicians and blaming all the health care system's problems on us.
