For the love of pete, please say it ain't so! What the heck is this world coming to? How do you define America - Baseball, Mom, Apple Pie, and the Girl Scout cookie (Thin mints, thank you very much).
Yes, it's that time of year again, ladies and gentleman. It's the time of year where all is right with the world. Yes, there's a war on terror going on. Yes, there is poverty and hunger taking place across the world. But, to escape this reality, what do we have? We have the Girl Scout cookie.
People think I'm nuts - and they may be right. But, if you want to properly participate in binge eating (as I do sometimes), then you need the Girl Scout cookie (Thin mints, thank you very much).
But, alas, friends and neighbors. As I was scanning the news today, I ran across a story which stopped me in my tracks. A story which made me cry out, "Oh no! The Girl Scouts caved in, too!"
Beginning this year, ALL Girl Scout cookies will be trans fat free. (Apparently, some GS brands are already trans fat free.) According to this AP article, the scouts want "to add an element of health consciousness to their annual bake sale."
Initial feedback has been positive, said Anna Ho, who organizes sales for Troop 805 in Parsippany, N.J.Uh, excuse me? But, if I was going to choose something healthy, I would not choose GS cookies. I would choose something like fruits and veggies to snack on.
"People are saying, 'It's about time,' said Ho. "Everybody is conscious of the trans-fat issue ... My own sister used to rub me in the ribs sometimes and say, 'When are you going to go healthy?'"
This is an appeal to the Girl Scout leadership. Please, please, please leave in the trans fats in your products. How could I ever live without those darn trans fats in my favorite Girl Scout cookies? (Thin mints, Thank you very much!)

I'm with you! Although, I am a personal fan of Treffoils...
A cookie will and always be...a cookie! Even Cookie Monster is opting for more fruits and veggies over his usual, career making treat. But, treats have their time and place and I'm personally looking forward to our Treffoils, and Thin Mints, arriving any day now!
BTW, love the blog's new look!
I do not believe in diet or healthy junk food. In no way is binging on GS Cookies healthy, with or without the trans fat. And that whole scam of fat free cookies? I'm sorry, but no way can anyone scarf down a package of fat free Oreos and call it healthy. Just gimmee the damn Double Stuf any day.
funny,doctor.
There is nothing like a nice frozen, yes, I said frozen, thin mint. Mmm!
I bet they still taste the same.
Thin mints are my favorite.
So are trans fats.
I can't live without them. Trans fats that is.
I think that "scientists" will figure that out too.
Sooner or...
later...
I find it interesting to see how many food items now have the "no trans fat" label on them. The worse cookies taste, the better off I am as it really is something I'd be better off without anyway ;)
(even thin mints thank you very much LOL) Muddy
I thought trans fats killed you? They find a way to clog up any of the arteries, and literally kill you!
Isn't it like smoking? I've always viewed smoking like a slow suicide, in a way I'm seeing trans fats the same way.
Talking trans fats and cookies, and along side that waist line. Do you guys know why the Dutch are so tall and Americans so round?
Have you had the trans fat Oreos? Their taste is supersweet with a fatty aftertaste. I hope the same doesn't happen to those thin mints!
so thin mints, solution just eat more of them!!
oh nooooo, it can't be so! we only get them once a year! how bad could that be for us? really? once a year? (danged fat police! drat!)
smiles, bee
Obviously I am in the minority. For me two flavors that don't belong together are mint and chocolate. Give me straight up chocolate...in an IV if possible.
I have a sweet tooth...and this time of year my coworkers always soak me for Girl Scout cookie orders. I'll just eat extra oatmeal to offset them!
good posting!
stop by and say hi sometime

The Trefoils, thank you very much! (They're perfect for binge eating...)
I do not believe there are so-called 'good' and 'bad' foods.
When media hype happens, all this domino effect crap starts. I'm a weight loss success story (85 pounds and still working on losing!), and I've NEVER given up a single favorite food, including--you guessed it--GIRL SCOUT COOKIES! They're taking the taste of the 1980's away from us and it sucks (c'mon you know what I'm talking about, haha).
Any food in moderation, along with some of nature's candy (i.e. fruits & veggies), is pretty much OK, if you ask me. People don't die from eating. They die from OVEReating. That goes for any fats--trans or saturated or whatever. I hate fad dieting, and this trans fat thing just perpetuates more fad diets. There isn't only one thing that makes us sick and/or fat. That's just my two cents worth. ;-P
Needless to say, I'm with you on this thing. Sorry for the rant. I'm quite passionate about anything food/weight related.
Haa! I think they will all still be delicious. In case you haven't ordered enough, found out that the Girl Scouts have finally joined the digital age and created a website that makes it easy to find those tasty cookies (http://www.GirlScoutCookies.org). Also, they’ve posted some groovy vintage cookie ads on MySpace (http://www.MySpace.com/GirlScoutCookieSale). Pretty funny, kitschy TV ads from the 1970’s - definitely worth a look!
I'm late in posting a reply to this but was waiting until I had my first taste of the new "healthy" Girl Scout Cookies. I just ate my first, I mean second, ok...damn it my first frozen roll of Thin Mints sans trans fat and well...they did have a funny mouth feel and maybe a little bit of a different taste. But, the roll still disappeared.
