Dr. A Revealed

So, I did it. I took a small step out of the shadows of anonymous-ness (is that a word?). In the midst of my blog funk, I tried out video blogging. I have to tell you, it was an interesting experience. Don't get me wrong, my blogging home is still here. I don't know how much I'll vblog, but we'll see.

Why reveal my big mug now and in the past be reluctant to even show my face in a picture? I dunno. As I say in the video, I've been looking at vblogs for about a month now. And, I've been really taken by them.

It was kind of like the feeling I had when I first started looking at text blogs. It took me six months to get up the courage to start this blog here. During my blog funk this month, I told myself that I was not going to wait that long again to try something new.

So, I recorded it, and waited. I thought about it and thought about it and thought about it. Should I really post this thing up there? Am I ready to really do this? Is this the right thing to do? We'll see. Check out my first vblog called, "Help! I'm a Blogaholic!" (link removed)

Well, it feels a little weird (why? I don't quite know) to see the face behind the words but I liked it! Good job, Dr. A.

Okay, that was so totally cool I can't believe it!

I have got to link to that....

Oh, and I'm a blogaholic but it's so ingrained into my life now it's like I've always been one.

And doesn't writer's block suck?

You look great on video and you have a voice that works great, too! Me, not such hot stuff.......

Oh, brave, brave man! Made me smile though. Nice to put a face to the 'voice'.

I might be a blogaholic but I''m not brave enough (or technically minded enough) to put that into a video blog.

Interesting choice of video blog displayed at the end of yours though....sex accident?? Decided probably not the thing to watch before the morning coffee.

I absolutely understand you. I have the same problem, just after 3 months of blogging. I've been writing 2-3 posts a day + I maintain a Hungarian medical blog + I'm an admin on the English Wikipedia. So I feel the same as you. When blogging becomes work, it's not worth it.

Take a break, me, I can't... I'm a blogaholic. :)

I loved this idea! I pictured you more like Patrick Demsey for some reason or that doc from House....I wonder why! :) I think you are very brave to do this. I must say, I have only posted a picture of myself on my blog once. I am not sure I am ready for video yet, though. I don't really like my voice on "tape"....too annoying.

PS: I am Pattie, and yes, I too, am a Blogaholic.

wow! and I thought I was brave just signing up! kudos...

Dr. A -

Welcome to the ranks of the "exposed." It'll be interesting to see what others think about your video - no doubt some will like the effort, others disappointed - as their fantasies of your appearance was different than the real McCoy.

I'm reminded of the days long ago when I was in college and looked at a college "face book" of a prospective date and tried to decide what she was like before our date together. Looks, as I usually found out, were deceiving.

But this experience is in reverse: we all feel like friends (us fellow blogaholics) but now we get a look at your face, and associate it with a blogging personality. Strange, really, how our minds work...

Your blog is remarkably popular and I hope you stick with it. I mean, where else can us blogaholics go to get support for this addiction?

Anonymous said...

Dr. Anonymous! That was GREAT! I hope it's not going to be your last one of those ... ;o)

You've got a lot more courage than I do. Although I have a picture up, I doubt that I could ever put up a video! *LOL*

Oh ... and by the way, I'm Moof, and I'm a blogaholic!

Very cool! (I would never have that kind of courage---I even hide here in Podunk...)

I am thethinker, and I'm a blogaholic too.

Nice!! You could put a pic of yourself up there between the two Hollywood docs and not look out of place.

Cool to put a face to a name.

Glad to know you aren't retiring from the blogging.

Anonymous said...

i won't admit i am a blogaholic because i don't want to be treated :)

nice to see you on video. i guess you have to change your name now, because you are definitely not anonymous anymore :)

Didn't I see you on America's Most wanted? lol

I am Awesome Mom and I am a blogaholic. I am just not into the whole video blogging since it would most likely be interrupted by my kids and I am not all that fond of the sound of my voice.

Hi Doc Anonymous, I'm Mary, yes I'm a blogoholic! We need to work on a new set of 12-steps for this new problem... er disease. You will know we've hit the big time when we can actually get a billing code for being a Blogoholic.

Seriously-- nice to see a face, and hear your voice... Writers block does suck. But consistency builds confidence. Kinda' feels like you've come out of the closet. Sortaspeak! Congrad's!

Dr. A, it's pure pleasure to finally meet you. Yes, I am a blogaholic. But it has been my saving grace. I would most certainly go mad, if not for my blogs. I am in semi-retirement and when I do not know what to do w/myself...I blog.
Big Hugs!

As a medium, I don't think video blogging has the same attraction for me as traditional blogging (unless a bunch of hot exotic strippers take up video blogging), but I second the motion that it's good to put a face and voice and all that jazz with the words; plus, you're not nearly as scary looking as everyone said you were. I was thinking you'd be more "Dr. Perry Cox"-like.

I think I'll stay behind the keyboard awhile longer... like until someone offers me a book contract... which means I'll almost never come out from behind the keyboard... but I support you, Doc.

But then again, I have a face made for radio....

I commented over on the video site..thanks for exposing yourself :)

Hi Doc! Nice to finally put a face and voice with your postings.

I'm Lea, and I'm a blogaholic.

Hi Dr. A,
Based on your comment in my blog when I 'came out of the closet,' I thought you would reveal yourself in due course on your blog.
But this was unexpected... to say the least :)
Your vlog was great for a first timer's effort.
I don't think I'll ever have the courage to impose my ugly mug on the few friends that I have gained in the blogosphere.
So instead of a video comment, please accept my affirmation in writing.
I'm Vijay & I'm a Blogaholic.
PS. Has anyone told you that you have a very Indian-looking face (i.e., Like my countrymen. Not Native American)?

Liana said...

Wow. I certainly didn't expect to see this but it's a pleasant surprise.

I've thought about dabbling in vlogging but worry that my website would degenerate into a sorry spectacle of hula hooping, swing dancing and bouldering videos.

On the anonymous issue though, I think we discussed this in the comment section somewhere... I've been "exposed" right from the get go. So how does it feel, Dr. A?

Anonymous said...

Wow! Well, good for you! I hope you are happy with the result. And yes, you know that I too, am a blogaholic. I'll be taking the minutes at the next meeting! In fact, you can just assign me the position permanently if you'd like.

Anonymous said...

OMG, I knew it and I was right...I know who you are! Wow, I love this video idea and you were great on it.

As for me, NADA! But, i did promise you once that if you put up a picture so would I. So come this weekend I will do so..One sorry picture. I ain't doin no video.

Great job, Dr. A.

That was cool. My name is Tori and I'm a blogaholic. I won't be making a video though because I always feel like my voice makes me sound like a 5 year old.

It's nice to put a face to the words though. Thanks for doing this!

well dr.a, i will admit i AM surprised, i really thought i knew who you were but i was wrong. just goes to show, you never know. and about your question. am i a blogaholic? i seem to remember hosting a ba meeting at my house! ha ha

Wow! Nice to have a face to put to the voice. Hoping Roy doesn't get any ideas from this....

I think you're a bit nuts :)

NeoNurseChic said...

Cute!! I've known who you were for awhile now, but oddly enough, I didn't think that you were the person you are at first. When I was in England and Helen and I were guessing at who you were, I thought you were somebody else! It wasn't until I got the one message that I knew for sure! ;)

I just emailed you my video blog response. I don't have a camcorder, so I can only record a few seconds of video blog messaging with my cell phone! I don't know that I'm ready to put my video on the 'net yet, but you can see the short message in your email anyhow!

Hugz,
Carrie :)

If you grow a beard you kinda look like Dr. Manny ;)

hmmm...finally, Glad to meet the Dr. A. You look familiar though. Any Asian lineage? Just asking.

My comments: [here I go again] Because this is what I felt when you were still an Anon. :)

1. I know you're younger than I am.

Ha! Big comment. What I didn't expect? My first question up.

I'm Ipanema, a blogaholic! My real photo in the MBL Community sans the face. I have to blur. :)

The good thing about this is that I can FINALLY stop picturing you as Patrick Dempsey and picturing you as Dr. A. Very cool idea.

Hey Doc,

I commend you on your "coming out" LOL. I think that most of us who do this (blogging) are probably addicted. It's hard not to be...I will take this a step further and declare I am also addicted to MySpace, but that's another galaxy far, far away...LOL...

Enjoyed the vlog. You look very good on camera - commanding and all doctorlike. I'm currently not blogging much due to my own lack of ideas and some issues at home, but expect to be back in the saddle very soon.

Great blog about not blogging!
Cheers!

Hi, just delurking to say: I'm Wendy and I'm a blogaholic. My blogaholism hasn't progressed to videoblogging. I think of myself as a "social blogger".
