I hope call is not too hectic (I won't jinx you with that "q" word).

Have a restful weekend!

Yo Dr. Anon! Don't let them overwork you! I think you get too darn many of these "on call" weeks ends too darn close together, methinks!

I won't jinx you by saying the "Q" word either ... *blink!*

We'll be here when you get back!

what, may I ask, is the q word?

Dr. A said...

The "q" word is quiet. This is in reference to being "on call."

Some people (and especially medical students and residents) consider it bad luck to say something like, "Hope it's quiet for you," or, "Hope your call is quiet." Which usually means you will be up all night working with little or no sleep.

yeah....had one of "those" Q nights last night! Will remember to ask my colleagues to refrain from saying anything about having a quiet night in future!

The other night at work, the mother of an ex-26 weeker that is now stable at a couple of months old now, was in the room with me while I was taking care of some very unstable little ones. Well, she said she didn't want to say that "word" but it seemed like that "word" was fitting for today. After she left, all hell broke loose. One other nurse in the room was calling people left and right and they had to reintubate her tiny one. My tiny one went into septic shock and everything was a screaming priority all at once.

Even just the thought of that "word" brings total disaster!

ahhhhh I seee! I get it. I do.

It's like a mom saying to a kid "I hope you get a kid just like you!"

My mom panics when she hears someone says that after seeing her grandchildren. LOL

Hmmmm, I see that my sidebar isn't the only one that moved to the bottom of the page . . .does anyone know how to fix this?
