Show 114 Preview: Columbus Groove

We have a great show planned for you this week on The Doctor Anonymous Show. Author Brandice Schnabel will be joining us to talk about her new book called "Columbus Groove." I first met Brandice while working on Podcamp Ohio 2008 planning. and she's been on the show in the past. In addition to her blog/website, this is how the author describes herself:
Brandice Schnabel, MSW, LSW is a clinical social worker living in Ohio with her husband. She earned a BA in Sociology from Mount Union College, where her poetry was published in the college literary magazine, The Calliope. She earned her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Akron and currently works on an inpatient psychiatric unit when she’s not scratching her latest creative itch.
I didn't even know she was putting a book together. It seems as if on August 22nd, 2009, she revealed this project on her blog in a post called "Super No-Longer-Secret Project." On the Columbus Groove website, this is how the author describes her book.
Columbus Groove is a collection of poems that reflect the journey many of us take to find what we need in another person. Whether we’re out in a sea storm, crashing into rocks and lovers, or blindly searching the coastline for a place to build a safe colony, free of pirates and far from heartbreakers, we are all explorers at some point, searching for love and discovering our groove along the way.
So, I hope that you can join us for Show 114 on Thursday, September 3rd, 2009 at 9:30pm Eastern Time (note the time change for the show) on BlogTalkRadio. If you are new to the show, there is a live, interactive chatroom. a webcam with me (when the cam is working), and the opportunity to call into the show to talk to the author. Hope to see you for the show!

Show 113 Wrap-up

Thanks to everyone who were able to check out the Saturday Night Show 113. It was a little tough in that I was talking for most, if not the entire show, which can get tiring sometimes. But, I was able to stumble through by talking about me and talking about some news stories from the past week. So, if you weren't able to catch the show live, I encourage you to listen to the show in the player above. Or, just download the show here and listen anytime. Thanks so much!

Show 112 Wrap-up

Thanks so much to everyone who listened to Show 112. As you can see in the graphic below, I think that this was a pretty popular show. It was great to reminisce about how The Doctor Anonymous Show started, where it is now, and possibly where it is going. Hopefully, the show will be around in another year, so that we can talk about it again.

We also talked about the MedBlogger programming track at this year's Blog World and New Media Expo which will be at the Las Vegas Convention center on October 15th. Thanks so much to Kim to writing up this post and this other post talking about show 112 over on the BWE blog. I appreciate it.

I'm on call this weekend. So, I'm not sure if I'm going to have a Saturday Night show. I have one scheduled up on BlogTalkRadio for Saturday, August 29th, 2009 at 9pm Eastern Time. But, depending on how the day goes, I might just go ahead with the show, or I might even cancel the show. Sorry about being noncommittal about it, but that's what life being on call is about sometimes. At least I hope you're having a great weekend - one of us should - hehe.....

Dr. A Show 112: 2nd Anniversary

BlogTalkRadio Listen Live
Thursday, August 27th, 2009 at 9pm Eastern Time

Can you believe that it was two years ago when The Doctor Anonymous Show started on BlogTalkRadio? I can't believe it either. Thanks so much to BTR for not canceling me - hehe. Actually, I do want to thank BTR for making this a featured show. If not for my featured status on the network, I don't think that this show would not be very popular at all.

In addition to celebrating two years on the network, we'll be talking about the HUGE MedBlogger Meetup which will be at Blog World and New Media Expo in Las Vegas in October. This year will be the first time ever that there will be a MedBlogger Track of programming at BWE/NME. You have to check out the star-studded schedule of this event in which the "who's who" of the medical blogosphere will be attending. Want to check out the schedule? Click on over to Emergiblog for more details. Hope to see you for the show!

If you are new to the show, I encourage you to catch us live. There is a great chat room that also goes on. You can even see my shining face on the webcam. (Although I've had problems with the webcam lately) In addition, you can call into the show to say hello. Can't catch us live? That's ok. You can listen anytime after the show as it is saved as a podcast so you can listen later.

For first time Blog Talk Radio listeners:
*Although it is not required to listen to the show, I encourage you to register on the BlogTalkRadio site prior to the show. I think it will make the process easier.

*To get to my show site, click here. As show time gets closer, keep hitting "refresh" on your browser until you see the "Play/Chat" button. Then, of course, press the "Play/Chat" button.

Show 111: Fail

I probably should have deleted this show, but I didn't. Now, it wasn't because of content, because I did a lot of show prep for it. Unfortunately, I had a lot of technical problems. Of course, doing a live internet radio show means that anything can happen. I thought that it may have been my skype connection. So, I called back into skype. But, that didn't work. I thought that it might have been the BTR site that was causing the problem. Who knows? So, about 15 minutes into the show, I just shut it down. The frustration in my voice is obvious. If you want to see how technology can mess up a show, this is the one to listen to. Hopefully, the next show won't have these problems.

Show 110 Wrap-up

Thanks to everyone who checked out Show 110 even though it was one hour later than usual. I had a hospital meeting that night and just got home before going on the air. And, in listening to the show again, I think that it showed in that I didn't think that my part of the show was that great. At the meeting before the show, we talked a lot about the current health care reform debate that is currently going on. I think I was still processing that discussion when I went on the air.

I do want to thank my friend Ben who called into the show close to the end of the broadcast - just to chat. I really appreciate it. I think that I have found out something. It really takes me about 20-30 minutes to really get into the show before I get going. And, I think that showed in this show. But, oh well, we'll do better next time.

Speaking of which, I hope that you're able to join me for Show 112 which will be tonight at 9pm Eastern Time on BlogTalkRadio (I know it's short notice getting this blog post out). I do have some fun news stories to talk about tonight - and actually some sound bites from news stories (time permitting). This show is of course getting you ready for the "Annie and Burl Live" show which takes place at 10pm ET tonight. Hope to see you for the show!

Vaccines TV News Spots

Back to school time is a great opportunity to talk about immunizations. Our local TV station asked me to come on their morning show to talk about them. I had to be there at 5:15am. So, if I look a little sleepy in either of these interviews - that's why hehe. (These were recorded on Friday, August 14, 2009) Anyway, I hope you find these informative. If you do, I encourage you to check out some other interviews I've done on local TV news by clicking here. Enjoy!

Dr. A Show 110 Tonight!

BlogTalkRadio Listen Live

Thursday, August 20th, 2009 at 10pm Eastern Time (Note New Time Tonight)

I'd like to invite you to the show tonight. I have a hospital meeting and probably wouldn't be home until after the regularly scheduled show time tonight. I thought about just canceling the show, but, hey, I could not do that to all of you out there - hehe. So, I moved the show one hour back to 10pm ET.

What will I talk about? Who knows? There are no scheduled guests and no scheduled topics - just me talkin about whatever. I may draw on some recent news stories. Plus, you can check in by being in the chat room, or even call into the show to tell me how things are going with you. So, join me for The Doctor Anonymous Show number 110 - tonight! It'll be a good time. See you for the show! (Also check out the video post above)

Show 109 Wrap-up

Thanks to everybody who joined me to the two hour extravaganza that we know as show 109. Our good friends Annie and Burl did not have a show that evening. So, I decided to extend out my show for a full two hours. Thanks to everyone who called in and kept me going for that time. I mean, we had a great time. But, boy, I was really tired after that.

I really shouldn't mention this, but there was an annoying person in my chat room during the show. I could have easily kicked out this person or call them out on the show. But, I didn't. That person even called into my switchboard and tried to get in on the show, but I did not pick up the call. That would have been interesting, wouldn't it have been?

Anyway, you can listen to the show here on the player above. Or, you can download the show by clicking here and listen to the show anytime on your computer and/or mobile player. Ever since I've brought the show back, the audience has been growing with each show. That is because of all of you who continue to support the show. I appreciate it. Thank you!

Show 108 Wrap-up

Thanks so much to DG and Tiffany Hollums for being guests on Show 108 talking about them going through the adoption process. I began the discussion by asking them how they met. We then went into their efforts to have a child naturally, which was unsuccessful. Their next step was going through years of fertility treatments - first in Texas, then in Kentucky. One interesting detail which I didn't know is that they are both ministers and achieved Masters degrees in this discipline in the midst of all of this.

There was a point in the process where they decided to stop the treatments. This was a very difficult time for the both of them. "I was mourning a loss," Tiffany said during this interview. Then, it was their dear friends who suggested that they consider going through the adoption process (Check out their adoption website here). The final part of the interview talks about where they are right now in this process - which is still early on. I wish the best of luck to the both of them. I'm considering bringing them back to update us on how they are doing.

Feel free to listen to the show in the player above. Or, if you like, you can download Show 108 by clicking here and listening anytime. Thanks again to DG and Tiffany for sharing their story. If you would like to support their dream in a financial way, I encourage you to click here. I hope you enjoy this special podcast.

Dr. A Show 108: Adoption

BlogTalkRadio Listen Live

Thursday, August 13th, 2009 at 9pm Eastern Time

I always enjoy when people share their personal story on the show. This week, we're doing something a little different in that this is not a medical topic. DG Hollums is someone who I met last year at Podcamp Ohio. At this year's Podcamp, he shared with me the story of he and his wife going through the process of adopting a child.

I asked DG whether he and his wife Tiffany would want to come on the show to share their story. They graciously agreed. They also have a blog called "The Hollums Adoption: Looking For A Little One To Love." Here is a portion of their most recent blog entry:
Well, it took us longer than we would have preferred (due life and ministry), but we sent in our part of the adoption application. Our part of the application was mostly financial background and debt stuff. But it also included a medical background questionare, etc...

The other parts of the application is in the hands of others. The insurance company needs to send in a letter stating that an adoption child would be covered if we adopt, the Dr. himself must send in our physicals to Gladney (the agency), and of course we have a few recommendation letters sent out that they need to write and send in to Gladney, as well. But, our part is done and send in to them.
I hope that you can join us for Show 108 on Thursday, August 13th, 2009 at 9pm Eastern Time for our special guests DG & Tiffany Hollums as they share their adoption journey. For those of you who may not be familiar with the show, there is a chat room, a webcam so that you can see me, and an opportunity for you to call into the show. See you then!

Show 107 Wrap-up

I know I'm late getting this out, but thanks to everyone who tuned into Show 107 last Saturday night. It was fun bringing back the Saturday night show. We talked briefly about the new recommendations as far as how long to stay away from school or work if you have symptoms resembling influenza. We also touched on a couple of other news stories. If you haven't checked out the show yet, click on the player above to listen on the site, or click here to download and listen when you want. Enjoy the show!

Show 106 Wrap-up

How does that saying go? Hosting a live internet radio show is like riding a bike? Well, maybe. It was great to return to the airwaves after being off for a month and a half. As always, you can listen to the show on the player above, or download the show here and listen to it later. And, of course, don't forget to check out the video post above.

I talked a little bit about what I've been doing on my summer "vacation." Thanks to first time listener Jan who not only listened for the first time, she called in to ask me my opinion about the current health care debate. I admit that I could have done a little more research, since my answer could have been a little better.

Thanks also to Kimmie and "The Burl" also for calling in and chatting with me on my first show back. In addition to that, I had a little post show "celebration" over on my ustream site for another 30 minutes (following a 90 minute show - sheesh!). Thanks to all of you out there who listen to the show and read the blog. I really appreciate it.

If you're around this weekend, I will be having Show 107 at 9pm Eastern Time on August 8, 2009 - as always - live on BlogTalkRadio for Saturday Night with Dr. A. Hope to see you then. Finally, I did want to give some props to @Jabulani9 who listened live from England where it was 2am when we started the show and close to 4 am when we closed up the post show. Truly an international audience!

Dr. A Show Tonight!

BlogTalkRadio Listen Live

Thursday, August 6th, 2009 at 9pm Eastern Time

The long awaited (or at least what I think is the long awaited) return of The Doctor Anonymous Show is tonight! What did you do this summer? Well, why not stop by the live chat room and hang out with the Dr. A Community - who are the best people around, in my unbiased opinion hehe. Above you'll see a picture of me when I was in Boston - specifically on the campus of Harvard University.

If you are new to the show, I encourage you to catch us live. There is a great chat room that also goes on. You can even see my shining face on the webcam. In addition, you can call into the show to say hello.

Now, don't be surprised if there are problems getting into the BlogTalkRadio chat room. Sometimes, it's taken me as long as 10 minutes to get into the chat room. Don't worry it's your computer - it's been a BTR problem, and they've been working on it. Sorry if there is any inconvenience.

Dr. A Show 106: The Return

After a long month and a half off, The Doctor Anonymous Show will make it's triumphant return on Thursday, August 6th, 2009 at 9pm Eastern Time on BlogTalkRadio. And, boy, do I have a lot to talk about. I have no idea if anyone missed the show when I was off, but I certainly missed doing the show live for you people hehe

What am I going to talk about? I'll be able to catch up on things like Podcamp Ohio, my trip to Boston, soccer doc stuff, my trip to a local dog show (yup, that's right), my recent TV interview, and other things. And, if I get off on a real rant, I may share some thoughts about the current health care debate that is occurring in this country. So, I hope that you'll be able to join me this week! (Don't forget to check out the video post above)

Congrats Emergiblog

If you didn't already know, today is the anniversary of Emergiblog. (I forgot if it was the fourth or fifth anniversary, but regardless, it's a long time blogging!) Congratulations to Kim for continuing to have one of the leading blogs in what I call new media medicine. You can see in my video above how I try to express this - and try is the word - hehe. Anyway, definitely check out Kim's blog - especially this week as she is hosting Grand Rounds. Happy Emergiblogiversary! LOL

Happy August

Just a random post from me. I don't even know if people read my blog anymore, since I don't post that much. Can you believe that it's August already? I'm looking forward to bringing the show back this coming week. I'll have much to update as far as my summer. And, I hope to hear from people checking in to see how everyone is doing. The pic above is when I went to Boston. It was great to meet up with Dr. Gwenn. I'll talk about this a lot more coming up on the show this week.
